Unenjoyable for sure. The crash is always at the end of wave in FD, disgusting af. Maybe it's our fault using AMD card, MAYBE.

Just for interest's sake, so far in this thread, the commonly affected cards seem to be:

    Pretty much everything in the R9 and R7 series(14 R9 280s, eight 270s, six 370s, five unspecified 200 series) followed by the HD series(Four 2979s, three each for 7870, 2950, and 7850).

A handful of others(two Nvidia cards, two other HD series).

I'm not sure if it's buying trends, or if the issue primarily affects those cards, but interesting to note.
  • Still waiting on a fix. Just glad I can still level up items during the few FD waves that i can get through before freezing.

This might sound a bit odd, but try going into catalyst control center, turning on "ReLive" and playing. You will get hitches where it locks up for a few seconds, but I've had a few people trying it, and it seems to be at least recovering from the hitches instead of crashing. I managed to make it through three games in a row without a full crash(All I had time for, rather than being forced to stop by a crash) with few issues.

And of course, report back if it helps - it's not a fix, but if it at least has you playing the game somewhat reasonably, it's better than nothing. And if it doesn't, I guess we're at the very least no worse off.

stop blaming amd, nvidia has the issue too. it's right there in the error message. it's respawn being ****, simple as that.

Posted twice for some reason, sorry. See below.
  • Posting my specs and Dxdiag seems a bit superfluous at this point.
My issue is exactly the same, except I get no error message. Just a hard crash that forces me to close Titanfall 2 through the task manager.
    Running an R9 280.
The only difference for me as opposed to the majority, is that this issue started with the Live Fire update for me, not Colony or FD.
I've tried rolling back, stock drivers actually crash less than 17.1

The crashing has gotten worse for me with each update, starting with live fire I could get 3-5 rounds of games in before a crash.
Before Live Fire, I recall a few ten hour binges without so much as a hiccup.
Never crashed, Ever. Was extremely stable prior to this issue.

I'm by no games in the technical side of game design, however I've noticed the crash happens MOST when interacting with other titans, less in matches like pilots V pilots or Live fire.
Top 3 things that I've been doing when a crash occured (dozens of times each)

    -Rodeo on titans.
-Casting Scorches Flame Shield in an intense firefight with 2 or more titans on screen.
-When Tone friendly, enemy, or personally using his pulse.

Honestly, this game is **** fantastic and became my primary game the moment I hit G2.
It's a shame that after EA **** it, negligence of this level killed off a large portion of the diehards like myself, I've spent 4 months looking for even some acknowledgement of this issue, nothing until now.

I'm not going to keep getting my hopes up, reinstalling this game, just to have the same issue.
I've stopped checking for updates that address this issue, and if it ever is fixed, it's highly unlikely I'll find out about it at this point and return playing as I've given up.

Respawn, get on this before everyone else ends up giving up on waiting like I did.
The playerbase couldn't afford an issue of this magnitude, it should not have gone on this long.

It is also affecting other games as well. It also crashed when I was playing Overwatch and I lost 50 SRs because of it.

    Hi everybody,

I know it's sad, but it made the game at least playable again: Try lowering your Resolution.

I went from 1080p (with all the shiny things on, as "recommended settings") down to 720p with everything on minimum. It looked a little bit uglier than normal, but I only really noticed in the menus, during the games it didn't really make a difference. At least I could play again!

Then I worked my way up and turned all the Settings on, one by one. Adaptive Scaling and Super-Sampling seem to work fine, Details, and Shadows as well.
When I turned Ambient Occlusion on, the game crashed after a few rounds. I was disappointed and went to bed. :) Today I turned Ambient Occlusion off again and cranked the resolution up to a 'whopping' 1600x900. Played 3 consecutive rounds which all looked great – and definitely better than with 720p. No crashes so far.

Try it, maybe it works for you, too.

    Windows 7

Got the 'device_hung' error same as everyone else. Used to happen once every two or three games, but with Frontier defense it happened 8 times in a row.
Tried all the common solutions: updating/reinstalling drivers, reinstalled directx, cleaned up the video card, tweaked registry, etc...
I finally got it running by doing the following:
    - setting the resolution to 720
    - setting ALL graphical options to the minimum
    - underclocking my video card (it has a default 'boost' clock set to 925mhz, I set it to the 'gpu' clock, 850 mhz
I have just completed three games without any crashes, fingers crossed

Noticed that my GPU still reached 91deg, but still lower than 98 with the previous settings.

    Dxdiag: sent to op

The game usually takes about 8 minutes into frontier defense to crash. I noticed that every time I do crash, I'm in a titan and shooting. Although most of the time is spent in a titan, I havent crashed while on foot.

It is also affecting other games as well. It also crashed when I was playing Overwatch and I lost 50 SRs because of it.

    LOL WHAT :D

I'll catch your bait and mention that any other kind of crash is not related lmao

Same error, i3 6100, 16GB DDR4, HD 7850 2GB, 17.3.1 driver, crash only in multiplayer, shortcut command -windowed -noborder solved issue for me...
EDIT: after an hour of gameplay no dxgi error, just white screen and crash...

    Video Card: R9 280X

Currently installed Video Card Driver: 17.7.2

    Processor: FX-8350

    Memory:8 GB DDR3

    OS: Windows 10 64 bit.

How long does it take to crash? : Varies, usually within 10-15 mins.

The error seems to happend when interacting with other Titans (shooting at range, close range etc.), but not certain, just an observation.

720p fullscreen worked for me. 900p crashed again. all options minimum, 2gb streaming budget (same as my gpu's vram) and ambient occlusion on.
might be able to increase some settings for quality, but haven't really tried it yet - just glad I can finally finish an FD match.

underclocking shouldn't be necessary, only if it runs too hot, but that's something that would also affect other games and can usually be fixed by better cooling.

I'm doing a clean install now and going to try some of these suggestions. Will post as I go.

    For now:

    Video Card: XFX R9 280X (3GB VRAM)
Currently installed Video Card Driver: 17.7.2
    Processor: i5-4460
    Memory:8 GB DDR3
    OS: Windows 10 64 bit.
How long does it take to crash? : Varies. I can usually play one game of Attrition to completion but will crash within the second game. No pattern to crashes during Frontier Defence, fairly random

    EDIT:
    I tried 2 things tonight:
Playing borderless window at 720p, other settings as normal - crashed within first game of FD.

Then I set to fullscreen, 720p (yeah it looks like a PS2 game), and most settings to low. Managed 2 games of FD with no crashes. I increased model textures to high and turned on some AA and still fine for second game.

Edit2 : Crashed with increased settings at 720p. Will try again with everything low

After playing like this for a few days: it does make the game playable but I still get some crashes, just got one on the first game of the day :/

These results seem to suggest an issue with AMD chips running on the 1st gen GCN architecture (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_graphics_processing_units#Radeon_R5.2FR7.2FR9_200_Series). Every single one of the models listed so far is a first generation GCN chip.

Speaking from my own experience, I am running an R9 290 and have not once experienced a crash in over 300 hours of play. If you look closely, not everything from the R9 and R7 line seems to be affected, and I think there is a reason for this: The R9 290 is a 2nd gen GCN chip, as are the R7 260, the R7/R9 360, R9 390, etc, none of which have yet been reported as suffering from the crashes. (The R9 285, which has also not been mentioned, is actually 3rd gen GCN). But notice for example, how the R7 270/370, which has this problem, is a first gen GCN chip.

As no post-2nd gen GCN chip owners have reported this issue, I'm willing to bet this problem is exclusive to 1st gen GCN chips. What's unfortunate is that AMD's nomenclature regarding these chips is wildly inconsistent (and not, in of itself, indicative of the underlying architecture), so this is probably less than obvious

I am going to quote you daily since Devs dont even post their progress on this nor their ideas or whatever, the internet is a place full of people with different skills and its a shame that a good Dev company such as respawn is not open to this kind of help, This is what makes more sense so far. please PM this info I will too.

    Btw Guys

I lowered my resolution to the LOWEST and looks like I didnt crash for 5 straight hours, Please try this

  • Hey just wanted to say i'm also having these issues with random crashes. Already PM'd community manager with DxDiag info
  • Just wanted to add that my graphics card crashes to
Using an AMD 7870 LE 2GB
    will post further details later
  • Just wanted to update on my crashing issue. I tried it all, windowed mode, underclocking the card, messing with settings, updating everything, disabling crossfire etc etc. Zero issues in any single player or multiplayer that did not have titans being called or turrets spawning. Frontier defense it would die after round 2-3 every single time and especially with sonar. I think it has something to do with spawning ai and network coordination. Anyway...

I deleted the entire r9 280 amd install with the amd tool. This freaked the computer out and had to do a hard restart, but when it came back I installed the original amd drivers that came with the card (version 13 or something and the old catalyst software). The game ran but badly, flashing titan cockpit and all, and still hung in frontier defense, so I updated to the latest drivers and radeon settings version instead of the old catalyst.

Here is the thing. When the amd control came back, it had the mhz of my card and memory at HALF the standard rate it had before. I am talking 480 for the gpu and 625 for the memory. Previously I had turned both cards down to 800 from 960 to try and underclock. Keep in mind this powercoler card is advertized at 850mhz to 960 boost and 1250x4... so these new numbers seem awkwardly low. By awkward I mean strange that they are exactly half what the card should be.... in the radeon settings it shows the core speed at 960 and mem at 1250, but on the card global settings it now has them set at half...

Just did about 5 matches of non-titan-spawning multiplayer with no issues... trying some frontier defense now. This is at pressing the recommended settings button and not turning everything all the way up. This is the most it has ever worked without crashing since i did the trial and bought the game this week.

    -win 10
    -16gb rams
    -(2) powercoler r9 280 3gb in crossfire with 17.7.2 update
    -amd9590 4.7ghz
-Opened the case and put a desk fan on everything to make sure it was not overheating.

what about nvidia users from the other threads?
either way, check the minimum requirements on origin. that this still hasn't been fixed months later is just pathetic. quite a few people will probably still run those GPUs since new hardware is incredibly scarce and what you can get is ridiculously overpriced due to the mining craze.

not to mention, what does that say about the company itself? why would anyone willing buy a respawn game in the future when there's a good chance it will stop working only a few months later? so much for their "we're pc gamers too!" drive they were spouting around launch...

did you disable the overlay? it started crashing again hours later when I had it enabled. or my suspicion some memory issues play into it as well, so make sure you have enough free ram (I wouldn't put it past a company that can't even program directx properly to not have **** memory management and leaks)
